Neuland Grant Program 

We are excited to announce the launch of a new grant program available to individuals, businesses, and organizations in Ulster County. This year, we are offering four $5000 grants to support efforts to create meaningful connections between people. We will also offer training and coaching to awardees to help them succeed in their objectives.

Applications were due on October 15th, 2024. We received 21 applications.

The program is being run by Neuland which is a new project funded by the Lucas Institute, a 501(c)(3) non-profit. Both entities are based in High Falls, NY. 

Neuland’s grant program is open to individuals, businesses and organizations that are working to connect people in meaningful ways. Grants will be awarded to projects that meet any of these criteria:

  • Create joyful opportunities for people to come together and learn from each other

  • Use fun- and awe-inspiring approaches to create meaningful connection

  • Promote understanding and respect between different groups

  • Break down barriers that divide people

  • Build bridges between people or communities

We will offer both financial and technical support to achieve objectives.

Application Process

The application process for the Neuland Grant Program for 2024 is now closed fairly straightforward. Applicants were asked to complete a brief application here , which includes the following:

  • A description of the project and its intended impacts, how it will be implemented, and who will benefit

  • A budget

  • Information about the people or organizations that will be involved in the project

Evaluation

Neuland’s grant evaluation process will be fun and simple.

A panel of four reviewers will evaluate the applications against the criteria below. The top applications will be discussed until the group reaches consensus about which projects could have the greatest impact.

Applicants will be notified about the grant awards by October 29th, 2024. Funds will be dispersed in two tranches: 50% at the beginning, and the remaining 50% upon completion.

Criteria

  • Potential impact with respect to grant program objectives

  • Capacity of the applicant (either individual or org) to implement the project

  • Uniqueness/ Creativity/Fun-ness

  • Sustainability/Ongoing support to continue or expand

  • Budget quality and clarity. Value for money.

Technical Support and Coaching

Neuland will offer technical support and coaching to grantees to help them succeed. This support may include:

  • Help with developing and implementing the project (if needed)

  • Training on working effectively and managing conflict

  • Use of common space at Neuland

  • Access to a network of people and resources that can help in other ways

  • Creation of a community of grantees that can collaborate together
